Welcome

Opportunity to make a difference in Paignton
20 May 2022, Paignton – If you live, work, or own property in Paignton, you might be able to help your community and yourself at the same time.
Paignton Neighbourhood Forum needs officers – a Chair (or Co-Chairs), Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, and Digital Officer. Previous office holders are happy to provide support, but we believe that Paignton will benefit most from rotating officers so that more people – and more ideas – are at the centre of the Forum.
Catherine Fritz, previous Chair, said “Officers of the Forum have great opportunities to learn more about what influences development in Paignton and to have a voice, on
behalf of the community, in those decisions.
“Now is a perfect time for people – of any age or group – to take control of the final steps in refreshing the Neighbourhood Plan and to lead it into referendum next May. If
you want a voice in how Paignton develops, here’s your chance.”
The Forum has four main roles:
– Refreshing the Neighbourhood Plan – the important legal document that protects local green spaces as well as the local landscapes and environment
– Monitoring development, ensuring that the Neighbourhood Plan is enforced so that Paignton retains amenities and develops appropriate housing in appropriate
places
– Accepting and reviewing applications for funding from community groups – and recommending where the funds earmarked for Paignton (about £150,000 at this
time!) should be awarded.
– Working with the other Neighbourhood Forums in Torbay (Torquay, Brixham, and Broadsands, Churston & Galmpton) and with the Council with respect to development across the bay.
No special knowledge is required: A highly qualified consultant will do the technical and support work, consulting you (and the Forum) as needed. Torbay Council will provide support where needed and will handle the local technical details for the Forum.
